Stop Work Authority
UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC is committed to protecting the health and safety of its employees and the environment in which it conducts business. Each employee, subcontractor, or visitor has the responsibility to contribute to a safe and healthful workplace and to protect the environment. UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC is adamant that Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) values are important business goals for ethical reasons and should not be disregarded for economic perspectives.
It is leadership’s directive that ALL employees, subcontractors, and visitors will act in a manner that is consistent with the above expectation. This Stop Work Authority (SWA) Commitment is provided as a tool to be used to meet these goals. Invoking a “SWA” by anyone on a UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC site, location property, or facility will not be considered a negative action and there will be NO consequences or retaliation towards the person or the company for which that person works. No person will be expected to, or coerced into performing work they consider unsafe or damaging to the environment.
This SWA Commitment grants all persons on the UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC site, facility, location, or property the Right, Obligation, Authority and Responsibility to STOP any work or actions that are unsafe to personnel, equipment, or the environment. Once invoked, it is expected that the activity in question will be stopped and reviewed by those performing the work, including immediate supervisors, and the appropriate UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC Representative on site, to identify the cause of the SWA and determine a resolution. Action will be taken to mitigate the hazard or prevent environmental damage.
